Since 1971, the Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival has been the fixture for the Labor Day weekend. After all, you need to celebrate the last weekend of summer doing something interesting, right? Especially if you haven’t made any plans yet, consider heading to Seattle this early September.

The festival includes independent films, dance performances, poetry slams, and street performers, along with a lot of street vendors from who you can buy souvenirs and food.

Bumbershoot takes place between September 3 and 5, which is the Labor Day weekend, a very busy travel time. As a result, expect higher airfare and don’t be surprised to see the Seattle hostels book up really quickly. Private rooms start at US$26 per person per night.

If you travel from New York, expect to pay from US$566 return fare for an adult on US Airways. If you travel from Portland, return adult airfare starts at US$219 on Alaska Airlines. Chances are you won’t be able to find very cheap airfare unless you can get your hands on last minute sales.

Another option is to look for travel deals to Seattle and you might be able to find something affordable even in 3 or 4-star hotels, as well as discounted flights.

Don’t forget to add the ticket price to the budget of the trip. Single Day tickets cost US$29, while for the 3-day ticket you’ll pay US$75. Accompanied children (10 years old and under) don’t need a ticket.
