Green Tortoise Hostel – Trekker’s Hostel Highlights

If location is the most important aspect of any business then the Green Tortoise wins hands down. It is the only hostel downtown and is located on the corner of 1st ave and Pike st , next to a t-shirt shop and directly opposite the famous Pike Place Market in the center of downtown Seattle.

But wait, there’s more, the innovative owner has created micro-climates for us travelers with each bunk having curtains, a lamp and a fan and the lockers under the bed are large enough to throw in two big backpacks. The holy grail for any backpacker, besides a comfy bed, is a clean shower. Green Tortoise goes above and beyond, the completely tiled showers are huge and include a toilet, sink and mirror, the floors are heated and the rainforest style shower head is a joy after a long day exploring.

Even though the price might seem a little higher on initial look remember it includes three free AMAZING dinners a week, and a FULL breakfast with make your own waffles, fruit, eggs and bread. There is also free internet and Wi-Fi.

As far as vibe goes it’s all about whose there, the rather sterile common room could use a splash of color and doesn’t lend itself to creating a party mood unless the present travelers create one.
